The Clarendon and Westbury community association started as a small group of volunteers who met in Betty Whitfields house, who's aim it was to raise enough money to purchase a community centre in the ward.
In the early days (1970's) the association used to meet in Bettys house, holding a weekly tote with local residents, with weekly prizes of £10, £5 and £3.
With this, and other fund raising events the committee gained enough money to buy the premises in belgrave road.
From this early start, close links were forged with the local church (St Martins) and together they moved forwards.
Today, the centre still remains, run by volunteers, and have events such as;
youth club, bingo, outings, playschool, senior citizens club and much more.
