| Priory Station |
|
The Priory Station has(and is)undergoing major works to make it a more pleasent place to use. On top of the works to the station, which will include a waiting area where people on the platform will be able to see the buses outside taking them to the port.
Campaigns are also taking place to redirect the steps from Priory Hill directly to the rail station. This has the support of the Police, Dover College and the councils. Although works on the station have over run, once completed it is hoped the station will be much more inviting.

UPDATE ON PRIORY FORUM ACTIVITIES CLUB
The club now well run by volunteers has seen a regular turnout of local teenagers.
All happy they have a place to chill out.
Now we are pleased to announce that we also do an hour of boxing training, and the kids love it.
We are also looking to the future and looking how we can take these kids out for the day to either London or ice skating.
On top of this we have an article in the Priory Forum newsletter which will go to many houses in the Priory Ward.
So the club is growing
if your reading this and aged 11 to 16 boy or girl, then come along on a Thursday evening chill out.

| Resurfacing the A20 |
|
At the December meeting it was agreed to look at the proposed works on the A20 which will have a big effect on all of Priory/Maxton and Elms Vale.
Discussion took place and many issues put forward to Mr Gordon Measey Dover District Council to take back to the operators INTEROUTE.
1; Demand the present number of lorries that
use the A20 AND how many are likely to
use the Folkestone Road.
2; How many Police will be on duty whilst
these works take place over the 15 weeks
3; 27 car parking spaces on Folkestone Road
will be lost during these works, where will
these cars go, and have alternative
parking arrangements been made?
4; Can the Folkestone Rd(which has already
flooded twice)sustain 42 ton lorries when
it is known the sewer from St Johns Rd
to bottom of Folkestone Rd, remains to
be renewed, and likely to break up
5 What arrangements are in hand should
question 4 happen?
6; Who is organising abnormal loads?
7; Who\'s looking after pedestrian safety
both from the situation of the
pavements already flooding in very
light rain,
And the 42 Ton lorries which Will not
always have road safety at top of
there minds.
8; When will Interoute provide clear
routes to be used when works
commence? Shouldn\'t this have been
ready and distributed to interested
parties at the first public meeting?
WHAT\'S YOUR VIEW ON THE ABOVE?
WE WELCOME BOTH YOUR FEEDBACK, AND
VIEWPOINTS.

| Folkestone Road |

You have continued to tell our committee members of your concerns of the changes in houses on the Folkestone Road. We were pleased that we had Richard Leister from the police along to the meeting to eplain the latest position from the police's point of view and after some debate Richard promised to talk to the planning department and report back to us.
We thank Richard for the interesting information he shared with us.

The Forum has been very active in opposing planning on the Folkestone Road. It believes the present situation on flooding on the Folkestone Road and pavements, becoming unable to be used in light rain, is not on. Having contacted all the agencies involved none are taking responsibility the Forum therefore decided to oppose all applications until some one does.

| PRIORY FORUM ACTIVITIES CLUB |
|
In Late August after a lot of discussions with many different people including KCC the above has now opened
for boys and girls aged between 11 and 16
Every Thursday 6.30pm to 9pm entrance just £1 held in the Clarendon and Westbury Hall, Belgrave Rd Dover.
parents consent forms can be obtained from
Cheryle McHugh 50 Winchelsea Street
Sheila aamos 18 Westbury Road
Keith Sansum 56 Eaves Road
The club has started by as a chill out youth club the club is growing and growing and is a facility desperatly
needed in the ward as no other club exists in the ward.
This was about forming a club not just talking about problems youth might cause.
The club is run by the youth for the youth, activites are decided by those present but Childrens Services KCC are looking
to provide facilities plus we are looking at a camping site at kearsney as a venture.
And at a very recent meeting the Clarendon and Westbury Community Assoc agreed to put aside £500 towards
equipment for use by the youth, and a shared room for the younger and older age groups.
Keith Sansum said "we said we would do something for the age groups that were not catered for, and we have, we
have had problems along the way but none that we could not overcome, this is being done for the kids and all
our kind volunteers had that at the back of here minds that we must not fail the youth"

| Play Areas |
|
After a long drawn out consultation it appears we are a little nearer to finding out if the area is to get a play area.
From the latest Council meeting promises have been made that Clarendon will get a play area but it also appears that it will depend on the Westmount site being sold.
When is a play area not a play area?
From talking to the council it appears the present position is that the council is to set up 7 bigger sites and although the other play areas may not close, the equipment will be taken out as and when it is no longer able to be used safely but NO Maintenance will be done on these other sites, so its likely we will end up with play equipment over the next few years being taken out and the hard surface/green grass remaining, so its still in the eyes of the council a play area but without the equipment!
So what does this mean?
As far as the info we have goes if you live near one of the 7 bigger sites then you a laughing but and it’s a big but, if you don’t you could be without a play area very soon!
We have also questioned what monies are available for the Clarendon site and the 7 bigger sites and from the figures given so far we cannot see how these play areas will be put into operation or maintained.
The council is hopeful that Town councils will take over the running of some of these play areas
We don’t know if these talks are fruitful or not
Promises (after a big lobby of the council) that Elms Vale is now to stay open so it shows what public pressure can do.
It also appears that even if westmount is sold, and a 106 planning agreement (which asks developer of the site to put money towards a new play area) _ we have NO guarantee that it Will be in the ward!
The priory forum has kept up its lobby of the council to keep the play areas open and work for better solutions than just closure; although the council has in some aspects listened it really is a watch this space as information is very hard to get and sometimes varies!!!!
We would like to know your views;
Do you agree with having just 7 sites in all of the Dover District?
Do you agree with the closure of the Mount Road play area?
Do you agree with the forum’s view that Clarendon should have its play area back but not on condition of sales of other sites!! Why should the priory ward be treated differently to other wards?
